I've had an extremely busy couple of months.
So, first of all, I apologise for being awful at keeping up with my blog posts!!
Since I last updated, I have returned to College, and I have started the third year of my Degree (scary stuff!) My work has gone in numerous directions, starting off at the beginning of the academic year looking at fashion illustration and portraiture, then developing my work into looking at Female identity in our current society.
I am thoroughly enjoying producing this work.
Those of you, who know me, will understand how many times I have altered my image, and how difficult it was for me to fit in when I was a teenager and a young woman. I think that we're all trying to find ourselves at that age, and none of us truly understand who we really are until one day, you just wake up, and bam!! it smacks you straight in the face.
You realise all that trivial bull* and competition of trying to be the prettiest, thinnest, most alternative, most unique, smartest, best at something - doesn't matter so much anymore, and I think you have to realise, that there will always be someone who YOU think, is more of those things that you (are). Of course, you still need to hold some sort of want for these things, or you will never work to achieve anything and I believe you wouldn't have any self respect if you completely didn't care. But, you get what I'm saying.
I've been very lucky to see many different exhibitions recently. A couple of months ago I went to see the Rene Magritte exhibition at the Tate Liverpool.
Although, I've never really felt a fan of his work - I've always found a lot of his work rather cartoon/y (sorry). After seeing so much work of his (that I didn't even know existed) You should know that now, that I definitely like his work and the reasoning’s behind some of it.
I also went to see the Ford Maddox Brown: Pre-Raphaelite Pioneer exhibition at the Manchester Art Gallery. I went to see this because I have decided to focus on Pre-Raphaelitism and Victorian culture for my Dissertation. I was definitely captivated by much of his work. I think I few years ago, I possibly would have walked straight through the room not looking at any of his pieces because I would of thought of his work as 'too traditional' or even 'boring'. But now that I understand exactly what Traditional is, I don't think that way anymore!
Last weekend; Jake and I, went on a short, romantic break to Paris. <3
Of course we had to see the sights; The Eiffel Tower (yes we went to the top), the Arc de Triomphe (we also stood on the roof), the Egyptian Obelisk. We also visited the Louvre and the Pompidou Centre.
Apparently, if you were to look at every single piece of work at the Louvre for a minute. You'd be in the building for four months. I'm glad I didn't try to see everything.

I was also really lucky last Thursday to be invited to the Private View of the Alice in Wonderland exhibition at the Tate Liverpool by my friend and colleague Naomi Horlock. Has to be one of the best exhibitions I've ever been to, (aside from Gustav Klimt and Maggie Hambling) simply because of such an amazing mix of artwork. Rossetti to Peter Blake, to Salvador Dali, Dorothea Tanning, Max Ernst to Francesca Woodman.
It was immense and I would recommend for anyone, even if you're not a fan of art, to go and see it. It’s on until the end of January.
Happy observing!!
