My Marilyn (unfinished)
Marilyn Monroe, an Icon of Glamour, independence, beauty and talent has most certainly been a large influence throughout my life.
I have always found it a huge challenge to paint, draw or even represent Marilyn in a piece of artwork, simply because it has all been done before. To make an individual piece of work these days is an extremely difficult task; because everyone wants to be an Artist.
So I had a little attempt at being at producing a different type of work; A non-conventional piece of Art.
I chose to create a portrait of Marilyn using Make-up. As a Make-up Artist as well as a Fine Artist, I thought; why not make a link between the two? I’m always struggling to control my expressive manners when I paint using Acrylic or Oil. However, when it comes to using make-up I’m quite good at “colouring within the lines” or so to speak.
My current module practice is about making work that denies that traditional routine of painting conventionally beautiful women. I think that this definitely applies to My Marilyn painting, however, she is still beautiful, and I doubt anyone could ever make her ugly. I doubt she would have cared if you tried though.
So here she is, don’t hesitate to let me know what you think. :D
