So I recently finished reading the Elizabeth Gilbert book 'Eat. Pray. Love' after all of the hype.
It took me a long time to complete reading the book, although every time I picked it up after a week or two of not looking at it whatsoever it was still pretty easy to keep up with. I didn't forget anything that happened and I didn't have to re-read any of the pages again, which to me, means that it must of been quite good.
I can't say the book was extremely thrilling, emotionally capturing, or overtly inspiring. Maybe this is because I related a little too much to some of her experiences and found some of it a little predictable or maybe it's because I like a book that I constantly cry or laugh throughout or if I literally can't put it down and have to finish it within three days or my life is over.. The bible 'bashery' throughout the book, did not offend me, infact I quite enjoyed her discussion of spiritual and faithful discovery and it almost made me want to be religious, usually I can't stand people talking about God, and saying that God spoke to them; simply because I feel pressured..... not that I would say that I'm not religious though, I just don't truly know what I believe in.
The book had an excellent flow, and I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. I loved her enthusiasm in Italy for Food and Language as I would love to travel to italy myself and experience this (but I definitely would have visited an art gallery whilst I was there!). I loved her child like selfish sadness (no offence liz) in India and I loved her re-building her life in Indonesia.
There is no doubt this woman is a brilliant writer and I have also started to read her next book in the series 'Commited' One chapter in and I am certainly enjoying the story.
I decided to rent Eat Pray Love last night from my local Blockbuster.... hmmm, what can I say but Utter shite. Of course Julia Roberts and James Franco are amazing actors but it just didn't work for me, it missed out waayy too much of the book. I understand you cannot fit in a 350 page book into a 1 and a half hour film. however, the lord of the rings was still fantastic?
Jake, my partner, has not read Eat. Pray. Love. but did watch the film with me and he found the film "Enjoyable to watch."
Doesn't sound interesting though really. Maybe its just because I liked the book.
