Continuing with my theme of challenging the female identity, I have again used myself as a model for my artwork to produce some new paintings. I don't particularly want these paintings to look like me because I am showing how with make-up and hairstyling you can produce 'a new you'
I have called this series 'competition'
This is because I believe that women are all competing with each other for individuality and identity.
I started this series by first of all using my make-up skills to exaggerate different elements of my face and take my make-up to the extreme and taking photographs of myself to work from.
I am greatly inspired by expressive painters such as Philip Gurrey (www.philipgurrey.com) and Maggie Hambling.
The paintings are unfinished, but I thought you'd like to see my current progression.
I will first show you one of the photographs that I was working from.

I plan on continuing these paintings, and starting another two. I only have a little over two weeks until I finish my module so I can't wait to get them completed!
