So last friday I went to see the film 'Killing Bono', to begin with, I didn't quite know what to expect. I am not a huge fan of U2. Infact, I wouldn't even call myself a fan...which is probably why I was intrigued by the title haha. However, I am a big fan of Robert Sheehan (Nathan from Misfits, Season of the Witch) and his performance in this is just as triumphant.
It also features the quirky actress Krysten Ritter (gilmore girls and veronica mars of course so it has to be genius) and Ben Barnes (Dorian Gray and Prince Caspian from the 2008 Chronicles of Narnia), I wont lie, to be honest; at first, I had no clue who he was haha. I love the Narnia films and I totally didn't recognise him which is probably a good thing, it shows he has range I suppose.
Also a sterling final performance from Pete Postlethwaite, playing a cringeworthy, camp old man who you end up falling in love with.
The film surprisingly, isn't so much about U2 as you would expect. It is about the McCormick brothers; two brothers who went to the same school as Bono who turned down the opportunity to be in U2 when they were kids. Little did they know, they'd spend the rest of their lives following in U2's footsteps and trying to make it on their own in the chaotic world of music. Constantly making mistakes along the way and still in the end not fufilling their full potential. Which is a shame, because I believe they really were better than U2.
The kid who plays bono Martin McCann was perfect in every single way....watch out for this boy, he's already been in Clash of the Titans (a quick google search). Not only did he look like Bono, he captured his arrogant swagger and confidence perfectly.
I don't want to tell you too much about the film, however I do want to tell you to go and watch it....
yes it is two and a half hours long, but it really is brilliant. go and see.
